We advocate for rational reservation policies that uphold merit while ensuring equal access to education and employment for all students in J&K.
OMSA J&K proposes a 65% open merit quota that protects hard–working students while still keeping strong support for genuinely disadvantaged groups.
65% open merit keeps a majority of seats purely merit–based while leaving ample room for reservations that uplift marginalised communities.
Our position is backed by comparative data from other states, expert opinions and ground feedback from students across districts.
A rational reservation structure ensures that today’s students are not forced to migrate or give up on dreams because of shrinking open merit space.
Standing up for thousands of deserving students who believe in the power of merit and hard work
The Open Merit Students Association – Jammu & Kashmir (OMSA JK) was born out of a growing need to raise a voice for thousands of deserving students who were being left behind by an unfair reservation system.
In 2024, the government of Jammu and Kashmir revised its reservation policy, reducing the open merit quota to just 33%, while increasing reserved seats for various categories. This decision deeply affected students who relied purely on merit for jobs and admissions.
"We are not against reservation, but we stand for a system that respects merit while supporting those who truly need help. We believe no hardworking student should be pushed aside because of unfair policies."
